Frequently asked questions about the clinic:
What is osteopathy?
- Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine, or DOs, believe there’s more to good health than the absence of pain or disease. As guardians of wellness, DOs focus on prevention by gaining a deeper understanding of your lifestyle and environment, rather than just treating your symptoms. We are trained to promote the body’s natural tendency toward health and self-healing. We use hands-on Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment to diagnose, treat and prevent illness and injury. DOs have a keen understanding of how the body’s systems are interconnected and how each one affects the others. Each treatment at the clinic will be supervised and chaperoned by Jeffrey K Etemad D.O. Treatment includes consultation, full physical exam, and osteopathic bodywork.
What does osteopathy treat?
- “To find health should be the object of the doctor. Anyone can find disease.” - Andrew T. Still, founder of Osteopathy
- Osteopathy aims to treat where treatment is needed most. Osteopathy aims to enhance the body’s ability to treat itself. Although there are many possibilities this medical profession can attend to, some examples of conditions are: asthma, arthritis, headaches, back pain and postural problems, neck pain, digestive issues, menopausal symptoms, pregnancy, sleep issues, concussions, colic, and more.
What do I expect?
- You will be expected to fill out a registration form once arriving. Then two to three student doctors will undergo a twenty-minute intake process with you, after which you will be given a full-body osteopathic manipulative treatment for 30-40 minutes. Plenty of rest and hydration will ensure a smooth healing process following the appointment. A follow up is always recommended, and we plan to continue this clinic monthly.
What should I wear?
- It is usually best to wear loose fitting, comfortable clothes. A good rule of thumb is to wear clothes you wouldn’t mind taking a nap in.
Is it really free?
- You are more than welcome to contribute to the clinic via Venmo or Paypal. However, while donations are accepted and encouraged as they will be used to pay for expenses for future clinics, no payment is required. Dr. Etemad has had a family home in Tomales for 45 years and it is his wish to give back to a community which he has grown to love.
How do I sign up?
